You got skills? Experience? Ideas? A desire to help others succeed? Then you have everything you need to level up!

I’ve been an author, an ‘unofficial’ business coach, and an official consultant for years. With three degrees, several certifications, including business leadership, 17 books, and an extensive background in writing, publishing, marketing, and business development, as well as numerous accolades as a writer and business leader, I’ve managed to rack up quite a bit of experience.

I’ve always cheerfully helped others reach their goals for the sheer joy of it. So when I decided I wanted to walk away from my corporate life to live out my dreams, I knew I had enough skills to do it successfully. If I could work hard for them, I could work hard for myself.

Whether your dream is to rise to new levels in your job or start your own business, think about all the skills you already have that can help you get to where you want to be.

When you’re ready for a change, start by checking yourself. I’m sure you’re a walking vault full of experience, skills, talents, gifts, and ideas to forge an incredible new path for yourself. I’m willing to bet that the next great idea or business exists inside of your head. My new book, Dream Journey outlines the steps I took to get where I wanted to be. It’s a great way to start your journey.

So again, I ask….You got skills? Experience? Ideas? A desire to help others succeed? Tell me what you’re working with.

GET YOUR MIND RIGHT

I can’t do it.

It’s too hard.

I’ll never have that.

It’s too late for me.

Have you ever said any of these things to yourself?

Don’t let your mindset sabotage your success!

Mindset, mindset, mindset. I know we always hear about getting our minds right or having the right mindset. I recently posted about this and felt the need to talk about it again after a recent conversation because it’s essential. The right mindset is truly the foundation for success. Our mindset is our belief system, and we can only achieve what we believe we can.

I know from personal experience that the wrong mindset can work as a barrier to success. It took a lot of work to shift my perspective, but when I did, everything changed for me. I was ambitious but didn’t believe I was worthy of success. Here’s what I did to change all of that. Changing my mind opened the door for new possibilities.

First, I examined my thoughts about success.

Second, I wrote down any thoughts that were negative and could hinder my progress.

Third, For every negative thought, I came up with a positive thought to transform my mindset.

Fourth, I wrote down my new beliefs and read them daily until they became my new belief system. It’s been said that it takes 21 days to form a new habit. I’d recommend reviewing your new beliefs every day for a minimum of 21 days.

This is how I changed my negative mindset to a positive one and unlocked the possibilities of what I could do to be successful.

Do you still have negative thoughts that could hinder your progress? Share some positive thoughts that can change your mind.

How It Started

HOW IT ALL STARTED

Sixteen years ago, I made a decision that changed the trajectory of my entire life.

I was working as a brand manager for a major publishing and events company. I had my eye on the C-suite. I looked forward to one day having my boss’s title, Chief Marketing Officer. And then I got laid off. That was the third layoff in three years. After the terrible events of 9/11, marketing was one of the hardest-hit professions. Despite having multiple degrees, it was difficult to stay employed.

Before my layoff, I discovered that writing wasn’t just something I enjoyed. It was my passion. Instead of going back to work, I decided to pursue my passion for becoming a published author.

This decision was hard, scary, and exciting. Today I’m an author of over twenty books. Being an author led to discovering my second passion, working with youth. In addition to writing books, I run a nonprofit organization for girls and have won awards for my role as a business leader.

How did I make this transition? I was strategic. I knew that starting over wouldn’t be easy, but I learned how to work hard, plan, set goals, and meet them. Most importantly, I knew how vital strategic planning was to success. I applied those same principles to my new venture, and it worked.

Strategic planning has been the key to my success as an author and entrepreneur. It can help you too. How can you be more strategic in your goals?
